OXYGEN THERAPY AT HOME

Α) With oxygen concentrator: The most appropriate and common method of oxygen therapy at home. The oxygen concentrators are very simple devices to use (an on / off button for the user) that provide oxygen from 0.5 to 5 liters per minute. Basically, this machine absorbs the air (which contains 21% oxygen) and returns the pure oxygen to the patient. This type of therapy is covered by all the social security funds. Moreover, O2 gas cylinders are provided in cases of power failure or patient’s transportation.

Β) With liquid oxygen: The most appropriate choice for a high oxygen flow up to more than 4 liters per minute covered by the social security funds under certain conditions (specific medical conditions or requirement for high O2 flow). It is the ideal solution for outpatients because the liquid oxygen containers are accompanied with a portable on-recharged tank with long time autonomy (up to 7-8 hours, depending on the required flows).
